INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING DREAMWEAVER STENCILS© & POLYSHRINKTOGETHER

You've been using the stencils, but how do you put the two together? And what exactly is shrink plastic? Shrink plastic is plastic stock that is heated and stretched in two directions until a thin sheet is formed. When heated the plastic returns to its original thickness and overall dimension. They state that your project will turn out to be 45% of its original, but I have found it may be even smaller. Following are the step-by-step directions for the projects shown here.

1) Select the type of shrink plastic for the project - there are four different kinds in the sampler pack. 'Clear' will show sharp and clear after heating. The 'Translucent' will display a more 'milky' look. The 'Canvas White' is opaque, as is the 'Black'. Experiment with each one as that is the only way to learn which one will suit your particular project.

2)  Begin by sanding the plastic in a cross-hatch (vertical & horizontal) pattern. This is the side you will be working on.

3)  If you want the background tinted, we have found the best mediums to be the chalks (just a light dusting, as the colors intensify when heated), or a real soft brush-over with one of the colors from the inkpad (Permanent Pigment Inks such as the Brilliance Pads are best for use on the plastic.) Polyshrinklists several other mediums, as well.

4)  Once you have the background prepared (or not, if you are leaving it as is), place the stencil and stencil as desired, holding firmly in place so it does not shift. Once again, a pigment ink such as Brilliance Pad for color will give the best effect.

5)  Cut out the stencil design with a sharp scissors. Be sure to punch any holes with paper punch before heating and remember, they will shrink too.

6)  You can use either a heat gun or an oven, but we have had the best results with the oven. Preheat to 325 degrees. Place item on teflon or aluminum foil sheet, put in oven for approximately 3 minutes. It should lay flat at this point, but it may still need a few more seconds in the oven, or if it needs a little persuasion, press down with your palette knife while still warm and pliable.

7)  Remove and admire!!

Center LL378 on a piece of Xmas wrap, paste emboss using Dreamweaver Reg Embossing Paste, then fold the edges of the paper to make a package. Place LS25 on Canvas White shrink plastic, use blue inkpad to stencil, cut out tag, then shrink according to instructions.

These alphabet blocks are so versatile and fun to work with. The Brilliance Pads were used to stencil on the Clear Polyshrink, then cut out and heated.

This is really just a conglomerate of some of the things I did to give some ideas. These would be wonderful embellishments for scrapbook pages to help document your vacation, or for greeting cards too. Mexico and Fiesta are done on the White Canvas plastic, the peppers on clear. The others are on Black Plastic, with color from the Antique Inkpad.   Hawaiian Scrapbook Page   LL332 Picasso is used for making the clouds for the background paper. Remember to work with very little color in your brush for a soft, fluffy look. The bottom of the page is done using LJ846 Maidenhair Fern. LL379 Palm Trees are stenciled on the left hand corner. The following are "shrink" items: LL452 Hawaii on White Canvas  in the right corner, and the words on Clear, scattered over the page.

This one is basically the "Resist Technique" taught by Dreamweaver, which I will not go into detail here, but it shows a pocket card using a message tag on the Canvas White plastic.     Once again the Resist Technique, using the Translucent Plastic for the words, tinted with chalk, then stenciled, shrunk, & mounted.
